The GWBHS has begun the process of building a database of local written
resources for researching local history. This database has been made available
to help researchers locate the material. You will be able to search the items by
Title and Author. You will also be able to select a Topic or Character and
locate related written material.
Check back often as this database will continue to grow as more material is
indexed.
At
that time the only dances were the waltz and the two step, and the orchestra
would play for the waltzes, while the band would strike up for the two steps.
The girls were always trying to get the round, brass buttons off our dress
uniforms to take home as souvenirs, and as we had to buy new buttons to replace
any lost, we were rather choosy who we let have them. One girl that I was
dancing with asked for a button, but I made some excuse and I noticed that she
was rather quiet during the rest of the dance. Her head came just about to my
shoulder and all the time we were dancing she was quietly chewing the thread
which held the button, so by the time the dance was over she had her souvenir.
