MMA Music

The Detroit Free Press described what occurred after General William Tecumseh Sherman spoke to the 1879 MMA graduating class, “After the address, the band played ‘The Brave Old Oak,’ which seemed most appropriate. This was followed by the singing of the ‘M.M.A.’s Cadet Song,’ written by D. B. Duffield, of Detroit, the exercises closing with a benediction by Rev. W. H. Utley, of Pontiac. There was subsequently a dress parade and mortar practice by the cadets.”

"SHERMAN'S RETURN TO THE MMA: At the 120th anniversary of William Tecumseh Sherman's appearance at the MMA graduation ceremonies, Ohio historian, Chris Evans (shown here portraying Sherman), presented a composite of the general's after-war remarks." Them Was The Days, page 41.
